Camera Shots and Angles

 09/15/2023

This week class was all about camera shots and angles. Also, this was my class's first assignment where we actually got some hands-on work and we went out and took some pictures. Mr. Z gave us a list of camera shots (establishing shot, master shot, aerial shot, long shot, two shot, wide shot, mid-shot, close-up shot, point of view shot, over-the-shoulder shot, high-angle shot, canted/ Dutch shot, and low-angle shot) and gave us time in class to go around the school and take at least one of each photo. I did have to take some outside of school because time was limited and I wanted more of a variety in some of my photos. Learning about different types of shots was interesting and I am already thinking about how to use these techniques in future projects but I did have some trouble with some of them. I found it difficult to take a picture of a master shot without it looking like a wide shot since the two are very similar. Furthermore, a master shot is supposed to be a static shot that showcases the movement of a scene but it was hard to capture that movement in a still photo. To help differentiate between the two I tried to get a shot of a bigger group of people who were differing distances away from the camera for the master shot to help showcase how each person is doing something different. On the other hand, for the wide shot, I tried to focus on one group of people all interacting with one another. Overall I had a lot of fun with this project and I think my favorite photo I took was definitely the long shot. I like how long shots focus more on how the subject interacts and looks compared to the environment. It gives an ominous and larger-than-life feeling to the picture and I really liked how the lighting and shadows came out in the photo; it gave it more of a spooky vibe. Below are all the pictures I turned in for this project, hope you enjoy them. Until next time!
