Independent Film Company

08/25/2023

Today me and my group finished our second project of this year. I worked with the same group as last time and I would say we did fairly well. Last week my class focused on large media companies so this week Mr.Z wanted us to investigate some smaller companies. This time each group picked an independent film company and all the groups will present to the class and share our findings. My group chose MonkeyPaw as our company because we all have at least seen one of their movies. This project gave us some useful context when comparing film projects from big companies compared to smaller ones. We picked the films "Us" and "Wendell & Wild" to focus on since one is one of their more traditional horror films and the other is their first animated feature so it was interesting to see how well each performed. The most difficult part for me was finding examples of synergy and marketing for each movie. All of the research we did as a group was very vague so we had to dig very deep but I think with more practice we will be able to better our research. Also, I am still very new to the term synergy so I was a little confused about what counted as synergy but after looking at everyone's projects and getting feedback from Mr. Z I think I have a better understanding. Well, that is all for today, my group's presentation is linked at the end of this post if you would like to see it for yourself!

Until next time!

Media Conglomerates Research.

08/18/2023

Hello and welcome to my very first blog post of the year! Honestly, I have no clue what to expect from this class, but my first assignment so far has piqued my interest. I have always been interested in film, music, etc. and I have noticed how some companies seem to always be connected when it comes to some projects but I never realized how deeply connected these companies are. My teacher assigned this group project to help us better understand which companies run most of the media production in the world and to allow us to have a better understanding of how media companies operate. Since this was our first group project of the year I chose to work with one of my friends in my class, Hannah. Hannah and I have been close friends for about two years and I thought working with her would be a good choice since we already talk daily and can hold each other accountable. Another girl in my class, named Paris, asked to join our group and even though we did not know her before we did this project, we all clicked and worked really well together! I have a feeling we will all work on the final film project together. We all did run into one problem and it was learning how to operate Sway. Mr. Z (our teacher) wanted us to learn a new program we were not familiar with and yes in the long run that is an important skill we will probably use throughout the year but at the time I was mildly annoyed. But I am a tech wiz after all so I did what any genius would do, I googled a YouTube video and hey it worked! I became a (somewhat) master and taught the rest of the group how to use it. Overall I think we did pretty good on our first presentation project. There is definitely room to improve with formatting and digging deeper when it comes to research but I at least think it is a good starting point. I am excited to see where this class goes from here!

If you want to take a look at our project I linked it at the end of this post.

Till next post,

-Sophia
