Activity 2.13: Editing Case Study

    As the end of the first semester rapidly approaches we are getting closer and closer to starting our first film project for the mid-term. To further help us prepare, Mr. Z decided to focus on editing techniques this past week. We were instructed to pair up (Hannah and I paired together if you did not already guess) and pick a film opening to study. Now Hannah and I have an inside joke where we sing Sweeney Todd songs so of course we decided to analyze the opening of the Sweeney Todd movie. While watching we had to identify the cuts, transitions, and visual effects used and how they impacted the meaning of the movie/opening. For the past semester, we have been writing down and studying terms and techniques when it comes to camera shots/angles, sound, lights, and cuts and we were expected to be able to apply this knowledge to the opening we picked, this assignment was also supposed to vaguely mimic one of the AICE exams we will all have to do. If I am completely honest I did not think we did that well on this assignment but Mr. Z assured us that we did very well and that helped soothe any fears I had about my abilities and how I would perform on the exam.
