Film Case Study

01/24/2024

Hello, I am back yet again for another post! Today marks the end of my class's genre unit. Mr. Z decided to end this unit with a good old-fashioned partner project. He assigned activity 3.6 in our media studies textbook which included picking a movie and making a presentation on how different theories apply to the film. We specifically went over Lacey's theory, Neale's theory, and Buckingham's theory. I partnered once again with Hannah and together we decided on a crime genre and chose the film "El Camino." One thing I struggled with while doing this project was determining the differences between Lacey's theory and Neale's theory since both deal with repeated elements of the genre. After talking to Hannah and Mr. Z, we determined that Lacey's theory dealt more with repeated story elements such as characters, plots, and props while Neale's theory looked more at repeated conventions of the genre. Another slight issue was we picked a movie that Hannah knew really well while I had never watched it before the project and it is a sequel to the show "Breaking Bad" which Hannah knew more about than me. However, this was pretty easy to overcome since I took the time to watch "El Camino" and Hannah made sure to correct any mistakes in my work. She was very helpful at answering all my questions about details in the show I did not quite recall. Here is the link to the PowerPoint we made PowerPoint Link, feel free to take a look! Now I think it is time for me to rewatch "Breaking Bad."
