It's time for what we have all been waiting for... the final project. When Mr. Z introduced this to our class there were a lot of groans but I am actually excited! Once again, I teamed up with Paris and Hannah (Mr. Z started to call us "The Elite Four" because of our midterm) and got to work quickly. We all quickly agreed to do a coming-of-age film with some comedic aspects to it. We spoke to Mr. Z to receive some constructive criticism on our last project so we can improve on this one. He said that if we took a more serious tone with our project he thought we would have the potential to produce something very professional-looking so we took that concept and implemented it into our plot. We decided to adhere to the genre's convention when it comes to a plot focused on a teenager. While discussing, the films "Lady Bird" and "Perks of Being a Wallflower" came up and we agreed that those films would be our inspiration for focusing on the struggles of growing up. As of today, we are playing with covering the topics of girlhood, growing up, and living in a town you desperately want to leave. Because Hannah and I are both seniors in high school, we thought it would be fitting for us to also cover the stress put on teenagers to go to college and plan out their whole lives before the age of 18. So as of today we have determined the two main characters will be two girls who are best friends and it is the summer between junior and senior year. The main girl is going through a mental slump, she just got out of a bad relationship, her relationship with her mother is strained, and she is stressed about her future. A main theme we would want our film to cover is the importance of girlhood and women's friendships with other women so the other girl would be the best friend that shows the main character how to heal through platonic love. We also decided to set it in our hometown of Sarasota, Florida and we want to have a scene in the empty mall nearby. Well, that is all the brainstorming for today, I will keep you lovely folks updated on how this project turns out!
